Can We PLEASE say Good Bye To The Dogs Days of Summer?

So here we are almost into October and the thermometer is still registering in the 90's in Maryland.  UGH. I tell you I'm done with it. This past summer was just brutal in terms of the temperatures. Record heat waves...which meant one thing; A/C was running non-stop at our house.  Another UGH.  We recently had a break in the temps for a couple of weeks and I was LOVING that the windows were up, the A/C was turned off, and temps were in the mid to high 70s during the hottest part of the day. I thought I had said goodbye to summer once and for all.- at least for another year that is. So long, sister! The mornings were cool and I never left the house without a light sweater or jacket. It was such a welcome change. But like the proverbial "bad penny" it seems that summer has turned back up in Maryland again and the weather gurus are  predicting more hot weather for the rest of the weekend. Enough already!

As you can see, just like any other summer day, the impatiens are still going strong in the hen house window box...

...and Lilly pants for air on the back porch steps because it's just too darn hot...

...but no matter to Darla and Lucy who enjoy a cool dust bath in their run as the trees shade them from the blazing sun above...ahhhhh!

...while Zeus spends his time supervising  the activity  that goes on  all around him (and probably wonders "what ARE those things, anyway?")

..and yours truly is still wearing her very fashionable backyard ensemble of cut off jean shorts and flip-flops!

But hey, despite all that, I hope everyone has a great weekend :-)!!!

  1. I agree with you, it's past time for the cooler temps to arrive and stay. Perhaps this is the last weekend of the summer sun and heat. Stay cool and enjoy those flip flops :)

  2. Yeah, our temps will be in the 100s all next week. I was like you, it was so nice to have the A.C. off and just have the windows open. I am not looking forward to another hot week. Oh well, I will be sorry I wished it away when it has been cold and dreary and I just long for the sun.
Your hen house is really cute. I love the blue shutters.
I do hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  3. We're looking at triple digits over the next few days too after a couple of days of cooler weather. We're pretty much used to it though. This was actually the mildest summer I can remember since I moved away from So. California 18 years ago. Here in the north state we are used to triple digits from July through September.

I hope you get some relief soon. Rumor has it you folks back east get a lot more humidity than we do.

  4. I couldn't agree with you more. I'm terribly sorry for the weather. I believe it's my fault. See, I bought two new sweaters when it got cooler, in anticipation of weather that I actually like. So sorry I caused this. Maybe if I'd bought a new pair of flip flops it would have snowed!
    Have a great weekend!
